SPA 2.0: Advancing Gender Equality and Human Rights Due Diligence in Kenya’s Agribusiness Sector
About The Book
Kenya’s agribusiness companies face growing expectations to address human rights risks, improve working conditions and advance gender equality across their value chains. This brief presents Global Compact Network Kenya’s work under the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA 2.0), implemented from January 2023 to December 2025 with funding from the Danish International Development Agency through the Confederation of Danish Industry.
The programme engaged more than 80 agribusiness companies through structured training, assessments, peer learning and action planning. By 2025, 94.7% of participating companies had completed human rights and environmental due diligence assessments, and 78.9% had developed gender equality action plans. National and regional convenings also brought together more than 600 stakeholders to strengthen dialogue and collaboration on social sustainability.
The brief explores how companies translated policy commitments into practical systems, clearer responsibilities and defined implementation measures. It also highlights the role of the Social Sustainability Working Group and wider policy engagement in supporting continued progress across agribusiness value chains.
