In a landmark move to advance corporate sustainability, Global Compact Network Kenya (GCNK) and Nation Media Group (NMG) today signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the role of media as a catalyst for sustainable development and to drive transformative action across the private sector in Kenya and the broader continent.

This partnership brings together Global Compact Network Kenya (GCNK)’s expertise in mobilizing responsible business practices and Nation Media Group's powerful media platforms, creating a collaborative force committed to advancing ethical, inclusive, and sustainability-driven business.

As the largest media house in East and Central Africa, NMG is set to leverage the partnership to strengthen its leadership in sustainability advocacy, gaining access to GCNK’s expansive network of responsible businesses, technical expertise, and global platforms.

Nation Media Group, which became the first mainstream media house in Kenya to join the United Nations Global Compact in 2021, will work closely with Global Compact Network Kenya (GCNK) to shape public and corporate narratives, influence behaviour, and accelerate progress toward responsible business conduct across sectors.

Through co-created campaigns, impactful storytelling and thought leadership, the two organisations will work together to amplify voices and solutions that are reshaping African businesses.

Whether it’s demystifying sustainability reporting, highlighting climate action, promoting gender equity, or advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the partnership will ensure that sustainability becomes central to public dialogue and business strategy.

Nation Media Group MD & CEO Geoffrey Odundo noted that the signing of the MoU signals a long-term strategic commitment by the media house to play a more active role in shaping public discourse. He emphasized the media’s role in promoting best practices and fostering accountability across issues such as climate action, human rights, transparency, and inclusion.

Global Compact Network Kenya Executive Director Judy Njino described Nation Media Group as a strategic partner in advancing corporate sustainability across Africa.

She affirmed that the partnership will deepen engagement, enhance capacity building, and support efforts to elevate African business leadership on regional and global platforms such as the African Business Leaders Coalition (ABLC).

Chief Corporate Affairs and Partnerships Officer at Nation Media Group, Monica Waceke, highlighted the organization’s foundational pillars of education, literacy, and the creative economy.

She observed that this collaboration will enable the media group to simplify and contextualize sustainability issues for citizens, businesses, and communities, making them more relatable and actionable.
