Ethical Leadership, Governance, and Anti-Corruption Best Practices in Kenyan Companies
About The Book

Ethical leadership and good governance are essential pillars of a transparent and resilient private sector. This report, developed under the Global Compact Network Kenya’s Business Integrity Programme with support from the Siemens Integrity Initiative, examines how Kenyan companies are embedding ethics and anti-corruption into their operations. Drawing from in-depth case studies of M.P. Shah Hospital, Britam Holdings Plc, Standard Chartered Bank, and CKL Africa Ltd, alongside insights from a wider survey of businesses, the study highlights the growing commitment to integrity-driven governance, robust ethical cultures, and collective action against corruption.

The findings reveal significant progress in governance structures, ethics training, and employee engagement, all of which strengthen accountability and trust. However, persistent challenges remain, including profit-first mindsets, weak supplier oversight, and limited corruption risk assessments. The report calls for stronger enforcement, consistent leadership from the top, and cross-sector collaboration to build a business environment where transparency and responsibility are the norm. It offers actionable recommendations for companies to deepen ethical practices and contribute to a fairer, more sustainable Kenyan economy.
