An SDG Pioneer for Inclusion of Persons’ with Disabilities in the Value Chain

As the Society Manager at East African Breweries Limited (EABL), Suleiman Ngondi has worked towards the economic empowerment and inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs) across the company’s value chain.

To ensure sustainability, Suleiman has led EABL’s absorption of PWDs into the core business opportunities in the value chain rather than implementing ad-hoc CSR interventions. In 2020, Suleiman and his team started with inclusion among contract small holder farmers in their local raw materials programme as the company scales up to formal employment in 2021. The company, a subsidiary of Diageo, has partnered with Sight Savers, an international NGO to deliver programs on promoting the rights of persons with disabilities in Kenya.

Inclusion of PWDs in the EABL supply chain will play a key role in alleviating poverty levels by promoting access to the labor market, food insecurity, increase access to medical care thus promoting good health and wellbeing. Access to vocational and entrepreneurial skills training will also increase literacy levels, opening up new opportunities for growth.
