Global Compact Network Kenya Executive Director Judy Njino was among invited guests who witnessed the launch of the East African Breweries PLC 2023 Sustainability report presided over by Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Hon. Sopian Tuya.


The report titled, 'Accelerating to a low carbon world', is the third sustainability report released by EABL and highlights key milestones achieved by the company in its journey towards net zero by 2030. Speaking during the launch, CS. Tuya commended EABL for its role in conserving and protecting key ecosystems in various parts of the country such as Mau Forest, Karura Forest and the Aberdare.


Adding their perspectives in a panel, Jane Karuku- Group MD & CEO EABL, Kariuki Ngari- CEO Standard Chartered Bank Kenya, Anthony Wainaina- MD Ponty Pridd and Judy Njino reflected on the many opportunities for African companies to drive solutions towards a net-zero world through partnerships at scale, adoption of green practices and financing solutions.


In her reflections, Ms. Njino remarked that Climate change while a problem, presents a $3 trillion investment opportunity in Africa by 2030 and this potential can only be realized with private sector involvement. She also noted that the United Nations Global Compact as the largest sustainability initiative globally with over 20,000 signatories has designed a learning and action journey for participants to help them translate their commitments to climate action aligned with science critical to speed up progress to halt further destruction of the planet.
