We are pleased to invite you to a sensitization breakfast forum on dispute management and resolution in business hosted by the Global Compact Network Kenya, Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) and the Strathmore Dispute Resolution Centre. The forum will take place on Friday, 21st August 2015, from 7:00 am- 10:00 am at the Southern Sun Mayfair Hotel, in Nairobi.

Background:
Individuals and organizations are increasingly faced by the need to resolve disputes without antagonizing the adverse party. This is inspired by the need to maintain cordiality in professional relationships. Businesses submit to this basic creed because of the reality of the paramount role of relationships with its stakeholders within the commercial sphere.

For the business community in Kenya, crucial stakeholders include the employees, the customers, the suppliers, the lenders and the local community. Leaving the management of disputes within these spheres wholly to litigation involves giving in to a resolution mechanism that is inefficient, expensive and very likely to sever already established goodwill. These are significant risks for businesses greatly reliant on efficiency and partnerships.

The breakfast forum will gather business leaders from diverse sectors to:
Create awareness on proper dispute management within the business community
Offer understanding on the practice of various dispute management and resolution mechanisms available to the business community.
Understand the feasibility of adopting the available dispute management and resolution mechanisms by stakeholders in business
Offer learning from the experiences of other organizations and industry regulators on the structure and execution of dispute management and resolution
Discuss the balance between adhering to UN Global Compact Principle No. 3 which provides that, "Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining", and the need to have an efficient dispute resolution mechanism within an organization.

A detailed program will be sent at a later date.
